He was born in Brisighella, in Romagna, on April 21, 1899. The first known work of L. is an etching that portrays the pier of Livorno, executed from life with L. Tommasi in 1914.
The wood engraving, however, unlike the etching, was practiced by the artist for a short period of time and with less interesting results. The traced woodcut tests are in the majority of the unique exemplary cases which escaped the destruction and show a simple processing and a rather poor print, often due to the quality of the unpolished and never squared wood.
In July 1915 he was invited for the first time to exhibit at a collective exhibition organized in Pistoia by the Accademia degli Armonici, where he presented both paintings and engravings.
