JACQUES VILLEGLE' - Biography
Jacques Villeglé (1926–2022) was a French artist and a key member of the Nouveau Réalisme movement. Beginning in the late 1940s, he developed a distinctive artistic practice based on collecting torn advertising posters from city streets, transforming them into artworks that reflect the social, political, and urban reality of his time. Through his décollage technique, Villeglé anticipated important themes of contemporary art such as appropriation, urban memory, and media language.
