Tetsuro Shimizu

Tetsuro Shimizu - Biography

Tetsuro Shimizu was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1958.
When he was 15 years old, he saw Chocquet's Portrait, a small-scale painting by Paul Cezanne from 1877, this painting provokes a very strong reaction in him, which shakes him like an earthquake, as if the painting reveals to him his destiny as a painter.
Another exhibition taking place in Tokyo at that time introduced him to Venetian Renaissance painting, particularly Titian Vecellio's, which presents albeit in Renaissance views the similar feeling of duality between pictorial matter and image. It is the same subject matter as Cezanne found in 16th-century Italian Venetian painting. It becomes more and more present in him, the idea of moving to Italy to fully experience the beloved culture. If it is oil painting, the expressive medium he seeks, he feels he must go find it where it was born.
In 1985 he graduated from the Sokei Academy of Fine Arts in Tokyo.
In 1987 he moved to Italy, to Milan, where he lives and works.
In 1992 she graduated in painting from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. He studies with Prof. Gottardo Ortelli, Paolo Minoli, Italo Bressan and Giovanni Accame. His diploma thesis is on the artist Paolo Patelli.
