FRANCOIS MORELLET - Biography
FRENCH ARTIST (CHOLET, FRANCE, 1926). Self-taught, she began her artistic career as a painter of landscapes, still life and a series of strange and imaginative paintings inspired by AUSTRALIAN SKIN PAINTINGS. IN THE 1950s AND 1960s, HE WAS AMONG THE FIRST TO GET INTERESTED, IN THE FIELD OF OP ART (OPTICAL ART), IN AN ARTISTIC WORK WHOSE CREATION WAS PERFECTLY RATIONAL AND BASED ON A GEOMETRIC SYSTEM. WITHOUT DENYING ITS CONSTRUCTIVIST APPROACH, IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS MORELLET THEN BEGAN PAINTING IN A MORE FREELY AND IRONIC WAY (THE SERIES OF MORE THAN A HUNDRED GEOMETRIES, EIGHTIES). HIS EXHIBITED BETWEEN THE OTHER AT CENTER POMPIDOU IN PARIS AND HIS ARCHITECTURAL PUBLIC WORKS HAVE BEEN COMMISSIONED. IN THE LAST YEARS HE HAS BEEN MORE INTERESTED IN SCULPTURE. IN THE DEBIS COMPLEX OF THE NEW POTSDAMER PLATZ IN BERLIN THERE IS AN IMPRESSIVE NEON INSTALLATION.
