RAFAEL JESUS SOTO - Biography
Soto, Jesús Rafael. - Painter and sculptor (Ciudad Bolívar 1923 - Paris 2005). After his studies in Caracas and a didactic experience at the school of fine arts in Maracaibo (1947-50), he settled in Paris where, starting from an abstract-geometric research, he reached, through a series of optical solutions, the first realizations kinetics; from 1958 he began to integrate the graphic intervention with wire curtains and metal rods (Blue virtual square, 1978-79, Paris, Musée national d'art moderne) experimenting with three-dimensional solutions and environments (Virtual volume, 1987, Paris, Center G. Pompidou). In 1973, a modern art museum dedicated to him was inaugurated in Ciudad Bolívar
