LATTUADA GALLERY PRESENTS A SOLO EXHIBITION BY NADIR ZAROUR
Milan, Italy – Lattuada Gallery is honored to present “Yearning for a Crowd”, an intense solo exhibition by self-taught artist Nadir Zarour. The exhibition features a series of vibrant and joyful paintings created in 2020, offering a powerful counterpoint to the isolation of the global COVID-19 lockdown.
Born in Algiers, Algeria (1977) and currently based in London, UK, Nadir Zarour is recognized as a distinctive “outsider artist.” While his more recent works—such as those shown in the Roman exhibition Life in Terracotta—explored uninhabited cities and the complexities of solitude and migration, the works in Yearning for a Crowd represent an earlier phase of his artistic journey.
Created during the enforced separation of 2020, this series marks a shift from desolation to a defiant celebration of collectivity. The canvases are crowded with figures engaged in shared activities: from the energy of car races and boxing matches, to the collective rhythm of concerts, and the excitement of winter sports. The sheer density of figures and the communal joy they express reveal the artist’s profound longing for connection during a time of global dispersal.
Zarour’s distinctive naïve technique is characterized by a simplicity of line that nonetheless conveys an extraordinary richness of deep, intense colors. In this collection, the naïve style imbues the scenes with an unfiltered sense of pure euphoria and shared collective memory.
By depicting universally recognizable social rituals, Zarour’s early works affirm the essential human need for physical presence, belonging, and shared experience. They stand as a vivid testament to the power of imagination to sustain a sense of community even when physical proximity is impossible.
The exhibition will be held at Lattuada Gallery in Milan and will be open to the public from December 18, 2025, to January 18, 2026, Monday to Friday, 10:00 am–1:00 pm and 3:00 pm–7:00 pm.
